Project Name : Spellchecker for Indian Words
For spellchecking on Indian proper nouns (be it the name of a place or a person), the standard alphabet substitution are mostly inadequate, as it is observed that the presumed mis-spelling is often an attempt to transliterate to english a local pronunciation. If we can split words into phonetic primes and compare these rather than alphabets, it may be easier to suggest a correct spelling. The challenge is to develop a program that will do this. The program will take as input a list of standard Indian road names/place names along with common english dictionary words as dictionary. It will be able to take a user-input of a mis-spelt word or phrase and recommend closest matches. Any popular programming language is okay as long as it compiles/works on Linux using publicly available compilers/interpreter.
Each entry should be accompanied by a less than 1000 words text explaining the approach taken.
