In its continuous strive to encourage students to follow their passion through entrepreneurship; we present to you a unique seminar where the entrepreneurs, who followed their heart and created a business around one’s passion and dreams, are determined to inspire you to be unconventional. The aim of the talk is to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship, while following one's passions. The speakers will share their recipes of success and also all the sweet and sour experiences they had during the course of their entire journey from nothing to everything while overcoming opposition to follow an unconventional field. Such talks aim to inspire them to follow the path less travelled. Some call it unconventional; we call it the road not taken.
Mr. Gaurav Jai Gupta (Fashion)
Trained at Chelsea College of Art and Design London in Woven Textiles and National Institute of Fashion Technology Delhi in Fashion Gaurav Jai Gupta makes clothes, accessories and product for interior spaces which are all hand woven and sustainable. A finalist of British Council and ELLE s YOUNG CREATIVE FASHION ENTERPRENUER AWARDS 2010 INDIA, he debuted at the prestigious ORIGIN: The London Craft fair in 2007 under his studio AKAARO and has been regular ever since. His approach towards his work and commitment to revive appreciation for contemporary Indian textiles has earned him both critical acclaim and a list of high profile customers with in U.K with likes of Jimmy Choo. His work looks at fine balance between craft and design and highlights the importance of handcrafting before machine alongside increasing the scope for contemporary Indian fashion internationally.
In 2009 Gupta was selected for the prestigious “Shared Talent India” Project for promoting Indian sustainable fashion an initiative by Centre of Sustainable Fashion, London which was exhibited at London Fashion Week and was supported by supported Defra,U.K.
He was also invited to co-curate and exhibit at London Calling in Tokyo on the commemoration of 150 years of British and Japanese Friendship in October 2008, the same was inaugurated by legendry designer Jimmy Choo in Tokyo. Following this he was asked by Jimmy Choo to design a fabric for a pair of sling back. His graduation show at NIFT Delhi won him the most innovative textile development by the jury followed by the same award from Fashion Design Council of India at Fibers of Fashion in 2003. He was also commissioned by the prestigious Central Saint Martins London as a trend forecaster from Delhi in 2006 for PREVIEW.
Year 2010 got Jai Gupta invited to show at Bath Festival in the U.K and a special show in Wales called ALL TIED UP. He debuted in India in October 2010 showing Spring/Summer 2011 Women’s wear through a runway show at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week and was immediately dubbed as “find of the week” by leading national daily Hindustan Times. He was also short listed as one of the candidates to represent India at Asian Designer Collection 2011 in Tokyo as a part of Japan Fashion Week. He showed his Autumn Winter 2011/12 at CAPSULE WOMENSWEAR in Paris successfully and was also invited to showcase the same at ALCHEMY FESTIVAL of India to represent Indian fashion community in London in April 2011.
He was awarded with “Grazia Young designers award” for textile innovation for his debut collection and represented India officially at the International Apparel Federation Designer awards in Mexico in October 2011 and won the designer of the year award for the most commercial collection.
With an element of progression and experimentation he has collaborated with Swarvoski Elements for AW2012. Gupta s work is a new kind of juxtaposition of materials and techniques developing path breaking body of work within the context of contemporary Indian handlooms.
A fair amount of his design practice address issues with in the context of design education in India; as a part of which he regularly conducts workshops, do talks and juries and teach at various design institutes. Gupta has also set up weave studio at Sushant School of Design in Gurgaon; which he is heading at the moment.
Mr. Saumil Majumdar (Sports)
Saumil is the Co-Founder & CEO of EduSports, India's First School Sports Enterprise. Saumil, an avid Sports lover, was in the Maharashtra Badminton team & in the IIT Bombay Football team. Over the last 6 years, Saumil has personally engaged with over 20,000 children and 5000 parents and over 100 schools in the Sports context. Saumil believes that schools are the ideal partners for creating a generation of "Champions in Life" viz. healthier & fitter children equipped with key life-skills. In his role of CEO at EduSports, he has been working with schools, federations, policy makers and sponsors towards creating more quality opportunities for children to experience the magic of sport. In addition to conducting workshops in many leading schools in India, Saumil has also taken guest lectures at IIM Bangalore, ISB Hyderabad, LNCPE (Laxmibai National College of Physical Education, Trivandrum) and TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs). Saumil is also the Founder-Director of SportzVillage. Prior to 2003, Saumil was the Founder- CEO of QSupport (one of India's first remote tech support businesses) and worked with Wipro (Global R&D) in the International marketing team after completing his MBA. Saumil holds a B-Tech degree from IIT-Bombay and an MBA degree from IIM- Bangalore. Additionally, he also holds a Basic Mountaineering Degree from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (Uttarkashi). He continues to follow his passion for sports through regular football, karate and an occasional round of golf.
