Cleantech

With the demands of Sustainable Living/Clean Technology more important than ever, we at Eureka! 2008 have planned to introduce a different reward for the best entry in this sector.
Cleantech refers to products, services and technologies which:

  • Make the most economic and balanced use of available natural resources.
  • Cut down upon wastage by a product and aim to increase its cost-effectiveness.
  • Configure the product for optimum performance.

The idea behind Cleantech is to make use of resources in an efficient manner such that there is no degrading effect of such usage on our ecosystem in any manner and the sustainability of our environment is not affected. Cleantech consists of businesses in a wide range of industries, including agriculture, energy, construction, water, transportation and manufacturing. Currently it is a very active and viable sector attracting much of the market attention, venture capitalists and angel investors.

cleantech

...harnessing the power of business to bring sustainability to the planet

For the purposes of this competition, a cleantech venture may directly utilize technologies that use resources efficiently, reduce pollution, or contribute to ecological health, or it may support such businesses. For example, both the manufacture of wind turbines as well as a business which provides financial services to the wind farm developers would meet the definition of cleantech ventures.

Cleantech spans many industry verticals and is defined by the following eleven segments,

  • Energy Generation
  • Energy Storage
  • Energy Infrastructure
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Transportation
  • Water & Wastewater
  • Air & Environment
  • Materials
  • Manufacturing/Industrial
  • Agriculture
  • Recycling & Waste

As part of the association between Eureka! 2008 and Foundation for a Sustainable Future, a prize money of INR 2,00,000/- will be given to the top two teams of this particular category. Eureka! 2008 will provide Carnegie Mellon University’s Sustainable Living Biz Competition a selection pool from which the selected teams will be given full support to enter into the competition held at Carnegie Mellon University. This ensures the winning team, not only prize money from Eureka! 2008, but also to represent India and showcase their plan at a global level at the Sustainable Living Biz Competition at CMU giving them a chance to win another USD 15,000.
